George Gilvesy Announces Retirement After Nine Years as Chair of Ontario
Greenhouse Vegetable Growers
LEAMINGTON, ON - Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) announce that after 9 years chairing the OGVG board of directors, George Gilvesy has chosen not to seek reappointment which has resulted in the new appointment of Steve Peters as his successor
effective November 1st, 2024.
George’s tenure as Chair has been marked by his unwavering commitment to collaboration within the greenhouse sector, and all levels of government. His strategic vision and dedication have propelled the OGVG members to new heights, enhancing the organization’s role as a leader in Ontario greenhouse grown vegetables. Through his guidance, the OGVG has successfully navigated challenges and strengthened partnerships with stakeholders across the agricultural community.
During his nine years in office, George has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at sustainability, food security, trade and market development. His efforts have not only benefited the OGVG members but have also contributed to the broader goals of the agricultural industry in Ontario. “I have had the pleasure of serving with George, who has inspired me and given me so many new perspectives on how agriculture and government can work together to achieve common goals,” said Rick Mastronardi, District 1 Vice Chair. “He will be sadly missed by many across the agricultural sector.” George's passion has been instrumental in advocating for policies that support environmentally friendly growing methods, managing government regulations, and ultimately benefiting consumers and the planet.
“George’s leadership has fundamentally shaped the direction of the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers,” said Kevin Safrance, District 2 Vice Chair. “His contributions will leave a lasting impact on our organization and the industry as a whole. We wish him all the best in his retirement and thank him for his dedication and service."
George’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, but his influence will continue to resonate within the industry.
